New Sign – Can you see it at 30 mph?
Last week I spent designing and re-designing the sign. I am not a graphic artist, but I like the final design…took a while to get there. With the help of my keen eyed partner, Liz Greenslade, we were able to arrive at a design that I think works!
Through a series of trial and error, I have come to recognize that the trick to a good sign, is communicating what you are in a split second. One of the first logos that was designed for a restaurant with which I was involved looked like a globe with latitudinal and longitudinal lines. It was a beautiful design, but most folks thought we were a travel agency. I learned that you need to be able to communicate what you are for cars zipping by on route 110, and be able to do it in a split second. It is not an easy achievement!
This sign seemed especially hard, since we are two separate businesses – restaurant and gallery, yet with a shared vision – a celebration of the arts.
Be on the look out for the new sign installation. It should be fairly soon!
